Penda financial empowerment app

Evaluating an app (Penda) designed to empower women escaping domestic and family violence to safely take control of their finances.

In the app design phase, Rachel conducted a literature review and facilitated two rounds of user-testing with domestic and family violence survivors. This ensured the app was informed by lived expertise and evidence from similar financial empowerment initiatives internationally. The app’s language, structure, content, security features and functionality were all directly influenced by user testing.

The final impact evaluation was able to demonstrate that many of the most highly valued features of the app were a direct result of this lived expertise.
